KASIA & KOSMA II
Kasia wanted to give birth naturally. She is very petite and our son turned out to be a big boy.
After eleven hours, when Kosma was finally born, Kasia had to be knocked-out due to some postpartum complications.
I was holding this big, 5-kilo boy of mine in my arms. He had a lot of black hair on his head. He looked like a little animal. It was an indescribable happiness and amazement, an extraordinary pride – my meeting with a mystery.
We went out to the hospital corridor.
I sat on a bench near a wall, holding my boy near my body under my shirt. I kept looking down at his small wrinkled face.
He was very calm. He began opening his eyes.
With some difficulties, he was spreading his black holes.
Finally, we were looking into each other’s eyes.
Kosma, changes came, welcome to the world – everything will be fine.
Kosma kept staring intensely at me, and I was smiling.
A wave of fatherly feelings was overwhelming me.
A long, incredible, magical moment.
The mystery of life is impenetrable.
A few meters way from us was the nurses’ office. There was a computer on her desk.
The screen lit with a kitsch photo of a big field of sunflowers.
We went to an office to have Kosma measured.
He got 10 points.
He wasn’t too nervous and didn’t cry.
For the first time in his life, he was wrapped in a piece of fabric…
We went to Kasia’s room. She slept deeply. We surrendered her room and began waking her up.
Later she said that in her dream she saw a big field of sunflowers. Some of them were bending over and calling her.
From the sunflowers our faces emerged.
Kasia woke up.
